Schools and Nursery Facilities

In Norway, children may attend nursery/day-care facilities from 1 to 6 years. Primary school is attended from 6 to 13 years, and secondary school from 13 to 16 years. These facilities are administered by Radøy educational services, which is divided into 4 administrative districts, each with a nursery/day-care facility and a primary school. Radøy secondary school serves the whole community.

The four districts are:

  • Austebygd (NE Radøy), with nursery and primary school at Sletta, close to the crossroads at start of the Valdersnes road.
  • Hordabø (NW Radøy), with nursery and primary school at Bøvågen.
  • Manger (W Radøy), with nursery and primary school at Manger.
  • Sæbø (SE Radøy), with nursery and primary school at Austmarka.

Radøy Secondary School is situated at Manger.

The school year (including nursery) starts in mid August. Parents can send applications for placement directly to a specific nursery or to Radøy municipal office: Radøy kommune, Krossvegen 8, 5936 Manger. Applications must be submitted on a standard form acquired from the nursery of your choice, municipal office, or the Internet. Parents applying by March 1st are ensured a place by law in one of the municipal nurseries, but not necessarily the one specified. Other applicants will be prioritized according to application date.

Children from the age of 6 to 16 are required by law to attend school. Non-Norwegian speaking children will get (some) special consideration, both in nurseries and schools.
