The municipality of Radøy, centrally located in Nordhordland has 269 islands, skerries and peninsulas. The distance from Bergen centre to Manger, the administrative heart, is 45 km. There is a population of around 4600 living in the total land area of 111 square kilometres, and of this, over 80 % is under 60 metres above sea level. The highest point is Morkefjellet at 217 m.

Radøy municipality has much to offer to both residents and visitors. The community has well developed municipal services and a rich and varied cultural life created by over 100 teams and organisations. The municipality has many attractions including spectacular scenery, monuments, art and museums. Here you’ll find numerous nature trails, and fishing and diving opportunities. There are around 900 jobs in the municipality, 450 of which are in the public service sector. In addition, both Bergen and the rest of Nordhordaland are within commuter distance.

Because of all this, Radøy strives to be both an attractive place to live, and a growing community. In 2005, Radøy was one of three finalists as Norway’s  “Cultural Municipality” which indicates the importance of culture in our community.

Although Radøy is well represented in trade and industry, it’s important to mention that it has a larger proportion of farmed land than any other municipality in Hordaland. This is naturally the foundation for the nickname “The Green Island”, which reflects the positive reaction of most people to the landscape.
